Selecting an Awning
What to look for

When it comes time to purchase an awning, you’ll want to make sure you choose the best design for your needs. While this can be a daunting task, we’ve got a few helpful hints to make the process a little less intimidating:

First you should look for an established awning company. One that has been in business for a number of years and is licensed and incorporated. Ask if they are a manufacturer or a dealer. You will find companies that both manufacturer and also a dealer for a specialised type of awning.

Some questions to ask are do they work with people that like to Do it themselves.
Do they have instructions.
Or will they show you how to install yourself.

If you are interested in a fabric awning.

First, you should look at the frame for the awning. The whole structure must be hung on brackets which should be powder-coated to make them crack-, chip- and peel-resistant.

Second, what type of fabric is used. It should be a fabric that has a manufacturers warranty of at lest 5 years. If the company is going to install for you do they give you any kind of warrantee on their installation work.

Third, compare the durability of the awning to its attractiveness. While you want the unit to look nice, it must be strong and sturdy enough to endure the most extreme weather conditions.

Finally, be careful when seeking a bargain. If the price seems too good to be true, then as with most things, it probably is. Some imported awnings are made very basically and will not withstand some of the extreme weather experienced in the United States.

If you are looking for an aluminum awning.

Ensure that the structure is made of a heavy-duty aluminum that will not bend, twist or buckle during operation.

Aluminum awnings come in many styles, Such as patio covers, or carport covers which are basically the same.

Keep in mind that the frame can be powder-coated in almost any color to match your home or business.
